The board is pleased to announce the speaker for Monday 26th June, Mr Bill Day. With a profound dedication to serving the community and an impressive array of accomplishments, Mr Day's contributions have left an indelible mark on the lives of many.
In 2005, at the request of the then CCDHB board, Mr Day took the initiative to establish the Wellington Hospitals Foundation, a testament to his unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare in our region. His active involvement in the community extends beyond the foundation, as he serves as a board member of the Life Flight Trust and the Medical Research Institute of NZ. Additionally, Mr Day holds the esteemed Justice of the Peace position, reflecting his deep involvement in promoting justice and equality.
We will be privileged to hear Mr Day speak on a topic of utmost importance — the District 9940 Children's Health Trust.
In recognition of his exceptional services to the community and the health field, Mr Day received the distinguished Queen's Honour as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2015. This prestigious accolade is a testament to his remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication.
Mr Day's extensive experience and leadership extend beyond his roles in healthcare. Notably, he has served as the former chair of the Life Flight Trust and as a director of Wellington Free Ambulance for an impressive 15 years. Furthermore, he contributed his expertise and knowledge to Westpac, where he held a senior position for 33 years before retiring. His exemplary leadership qualities were showcased during his seven-year New Zealand Community Trust CEO tenure.
A proud member of the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson, Mr Day's service commitment has been recognised again this year, as he was honoured with the prestigious Dominion Post Wellingtonian of the Year award. This accolade speaks volumes about his outstanding contributions and his positive impact on our community.
We will be privileged to hear Mr Day speak on a topic of utmost importance — the District 9940 Children's Health Trust. Through the generosity of numerous District 9940 Rotary Clubs, including a generous contribution of $19,000 from our Milson Rotary Club, a remarkable donation of $500,000 has been made to the Wellington Children's Hospital Foundation. This significant contribution aims to support the development of two daycare (whanau) rooms within the hospital, providing essential spaces for patients and their families. Each room will feature a play deck, an indoor play area for patients, and a dedicated area for whanau, including a kitchen, lounge, dining area, and bedroom for parents or guardians with a child in the intensive care unit.
