The Milson Rotary-sponsored team from Freyberg High School has made us all incredibly proud by securing third place in their class at the 2024 H2GP World Final in Anaheim, California!
After three exhilarating days of hydrogen-powered racing, teams from around the globe – including Canada, Australia, Chile, Germany, and for the first time, a team from New Zealand – showcased their innovation, teamwork, and engineering prowess. Each day was packed with new challenges, fierce competition, and unforgettable moments as the top teams battled for victory.
Congratulations to the team for making history and representing New Zealand with such distinction!
Our very own Freyberg team, “Kia Kaha,” raced on the first day of the Stock Races, pushing their hydrogen-powered vehicle to the limit in a grueling 6-hour endurance race. The competition was intense, but Team Kia Kaha finished strong, completing an impressive 1,096 laps and securing a spot in the top three behind Bulgaria and France.
On the second day, the stakes were even higher as the final laps determined the ultimate standings. Despite a strong showing from the German team, technical difficulties held them back, allowing Team Kia Kaha to clinch the bronze medal with their outstanding performance.
Ending up third in the world is an incredible achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder of Team Kia Kaha’s dedication and hard work. Congratulations to the team for making history and representing New Zealand with such distinction!
