Our club was privileged to host District Governor Jocelyn Hogg at our meeting. DG Jocelyn shared her reflections on leadership and Rotary's evolving landscape.
This year, Rotary's Theme is The Magic of Rotary. DG Jocelyn emphasised the symbolism of the theme’s colours - linking orange with change and blue with intelligence and trust. Combined, these colours represent Rotary’s burning need to move forward together as we change ourselves and the world. She highlighted the importance of collective action in Rotary, noting that real progress, such as ending polio or fostering peace, is achieved through concerted efforts rather than mere wishful thinking.
Jocelyn concluded by stressing the importance of adapting to change
She discussed the need for Rotary clubs to embrace the organisation's action plan, which focuses on empowering women and girls, raising mental health awareness, and expanding membership and engagement. Jocelyn shared her journey within Rotary, underscoring the fulfilment she finds in making a difference and her commitment to the regionalisation pilot project, which she believes will shape Rotary's future.
DG Jocelyn also addressed the membership challenges, mentioning that our district's declining numbers are a concern. The district's membership is now down to 1040 members spread over 36 clubs (pre-COVID-1500 members and 50 clubs). She encouraged members to proactively recruit and retain members, urging us to reflect on our engagement levels and the club's purpose.
Jocelyn concluded by stressing the importance of adapting to change, enhancing engagement, and continually reassessing our club's direction to ensure its vitality and relevance in the community.
