The following is a description of the B2B (Bangers to Bluff) that Roger Kennedy, Grant McCaskie, Mike Borren (former member) and Roger Kennedy are participating in in March 2023.
On 21st March 2023, we are embarking on a 12-day car Rally (a Fun Fundraiser) through New Zealand, travelling on “roads less travelled” known as “Bangers to Bluff and organised by The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay in Auckland, raising money for Multiple Sclerosis and Hopeworks Foundation (a charity assisting people and families coping with brain trauma injuries). Other Charities sanctioned by The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Charitable Trust (RCHMBCT) will also benefit.
The “Bangers” are cars costing less than $2000
The “Bangers” are cars costing less than $2000 to be auctioned off in Invercargill at the end of the Rally on 2nd April 2023, with the proceeds being donated to “RCHMBCT”. The Rally has raised more than $300,000 over the past six years. They also assist in fundraising events for the Charities along the route. Apart from a Charitable focus, the idea is for participants to have fun through a mix of challenges and competitions along the road with several Trophies for unusual aspects of the Bangers & challenges.
Sponsors are sought for the “Bangers”, which are decorated with Decals of the Sponsors on the vehicles – Sponsor Packages are available. This is an unusual type of Car Rally (a Fun Fundraiser) in that the prime intention is for participants to have fun for the duration and raise funds for some extremely worthy causes. Media coverage and exposure are via the Bangers to Bluff Facebook page, local and regional newspapers, and Radio Station supporters.

The above is an adventure, with the possibility of the following objectives for our club.
- We are raising awareness of Milson Rotary and pushing the message of our club being progressive, adventurous and inclusive, potentially enticing new membership.
- Fundraising and support of well-known charities
- Understanding of how the event is organised
- Potential for Roger, Grant and myself to carry out a similar fundraising event under the Milson Rotary umbrella
- Opportunity for us to report on the completion
- This adventure will cost approximately $5k per entrant plus all expenses (2-3k pp)
- This is also modelled on the Postie Bike Challenge, a 3500km trip from Brisbane to Cape York or Darwin, started in 2002 by the Preston Rotary Club, District 9810.
