The Bulletin 20th july 2026

Hi, everyone,

Our adventure began last night with the first of our offsite meetings while the Boatshed is closed for renovations.

We received a very warm welcome from the Hilltop staff, who went out of their way to make the evening enjoyable. It was wonderful to have 22 people attend, including our speaker, Steve Deans. It was also lovely to see Christine and Lincoln Jones back with us.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Elizabeth Hayman, who found us through the website and was keen to experience our hospitality and potentially become a member. I have the pleasure of seeing Elizabeth most days while walking the dogs, and she would be a very welcome and active member should she choose to join us.

The evening’s programme began with a drink and a natter before we moved into the private room. Although it was a little cramped, it did the job well. Many thanks to our IT lads, John and Bruce, who managed to get Steve’s PowerPoint working in somewhat interesting conditions.

The meeting ran for just under an hour and was followed by our pre-ordered dinner. The service was fast and efficient, and we were enjoying our meals in no time, with everyone finished by 7.30 pm.

A special shout-out to Brent for organising the venue. Our next meeting will also be held at the Hilltop on 3 August 2026.

We are also working on a potential September date for Quiz Night, if the stars align. More information will be shared at the next meeting. In the meantime, please start looking for teams of six quizzers for what promises to be a fun Friday night.

Last night may have been Alan Lee’s final meeting with us, although he will confirm this. I plan to have a coffee with him in the next week or so to see whether there is anything we can do to support him and Karen as they begin their new journey to Auckland. Alan will be sadly missed.

I hope you all have a great fortnight, and I look forward to seeing you at the Hilltop on 3 August 2026.

Kind regards,
Barb
